Thousands of young Russians have been blocked from leaving the country after the Kremlin activated a nationwide electronic draft system amid what is expected to be the largest autumn conscription in nearly a decade. The move marks another step in Moscow's effort to tighten control over potential conscripts ahead of the autumn call-up. The digital draft system automatically enters citizens' names into a government database once a draft notice is issued, instantly restricting their right to cross Russia's borders, the independent Russian media outlet Baza reported. It should be recalled that the law on "year-round call" in Russia was approved in the first reading in the Duma. Currently notifications are sent to drafted men via Gosuslugi, the government's online services portal, and the only way to lift the travel restriction is by visiting a military enlistment office in person.
