Gershon Shafir is Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, San Diego, and the founding director of its Human Rights Programme. He has served as President of the Association for Israel Studies and is the author or editor of ten books, among them A Half Century of Occupation: Israel, Palestine, and the World’s Most Intractable Conflict (University of California Press, 2017).
