The larger the shirt, the more yarn you will have. Also, T-shirt thickness makes a difference as well. A softer, thinner Suggested Looking at shirt will make lighter yarn. Use an ironing board or some kind of device that will allow you to easily turn the shirt as you cut. Cut off the hem and set it aside, you won’t need it. Now cut one long continuous strip no wider than 1 inch. 3/4” is even better! Go all the way around until the bottom of the arms. Take your long strip and go through and pull it nice and taut so the edges curl. Roll it into a ball. If you happen to see any wonky edges hanging out, cut those off with your scissors. Keep in mind, the wider you cut the strip visit the next page the thicker your yarn will be and the bigger the crochet hook you will need. It’s nice to use 100% cotton T-shirts! Make a really sturdy tote bag, macramé projects, potholders, even granny squares! I made a jumbo granny square just to show you what the yarn looks like after you use it. Granted my strip was very wide about an inch and a half. Next time I’m definitely going to cut it about 3/4 of an inch wide. I like this idea because then we are not tossing out all those shirts.
