UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn’s strong support for the Stop the War Coalition (StWC) came under scrutiny last week. The organisation has been criticised for publishing (and subsequently deleting) articles suggesting that France was ‘reaping the whirlwind’ of western intervention, that ISIS was the heir of the antifascist International Brigades of the 1930s, and that it was ‘Time to go to war with Israel as the only path to peace in the Middle East.’
‘The Left and the Jews: Time for Rethink’ by Fathom editor Professor Alan Johnson was published in the latest issue of Fathom. It is a revised and expanded version of a speech he gaven to the Pears Institute for the Study of Antisemitism, Birkbeck, on 3 November 2015.
Our Image of the Week is of Gabriel S. Moses, an artist working from Berlin with the Die Asporas group, a mixed media group of young Israeli artists in Berlin, petting his dog in their home. The group believe that the interaction with the German city provides a unique gateway, once again linking ancient European aesthetic traditions with local Israeli visual culture. Chen Leopold/Flash90.
Our Voice of the Week is of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Washington Institute Executive Director Robert Satloff discussing combating ISIS, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the repercussions of the nuclear agreement with Iran, and more. 1 December 2015.
