Some in Israel’s Arab community has been involved in strikes, protests and rioting in several Arab towns this weekend since the shooting by Israeli police of a 22-year-old Arab man in Kfar Kana on Friday.
In Fathom, Mohammad Darawshe, the Co-Executive Director of the Givat Haviva Institute, speaks about how to tackle the inequality and discrimination which Israel’s Arab community faces. He outlines historic reasons for this discrimination, but suggests constructive ways in which coexistence and equality can be achieved – citing positive examples that can be found in the work of Givat Haviva and other Israeli institutions working for a shared society.
Our ‘Voice of the week’ is ‘Israel and the Region: A Conversation with Yossi Alpher’ with Yossi Alpher, former director of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies; and Aaron David Miller, Vice President for New Initiatives and Distinguished Scholar, Woodrow Wilson Center, hosted by the Woodrow Wilson Center on 23 October 2014.
Our ‘Image of the week’ is of youths throwing rocks at Israeli Border Policemen at the entrance to the Arab village, Kfar Kanna, in Northern Israel, on 09 November 2014. Photo by Flash90.
