Fathom Highlight | 1967 | The international media and the Six-Day War / 16 May / 2017

Our Fathom Highlight this week is a new addition to our 1967 special issue by Professor Meron Medzini, who served as Director of Israel’s Government Press Office (GPO) in Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. Medzini recalls his experiences during the war, including his arrival at the Western wall together with the media and journalistic questions regarding Israeli plans for the future of the West Bank, an issue that continues to challenge Israeli society today.

Our voice of the week is Professor Galia Golan, Dr Sara Hirschhorn, Professor David Newman, and Ilham Shahbari, PhD candidate in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford, speaking on the Israeli legacies of the Six-Day War at the BICOM-Fathom-RUSI conference Israel and the Middle East: 50 Years since the Six-Day War, in London on 19 March 2017.

Our image of the week is workers of Kol Israel radio station performing their last radio broadcast on 10 May 2017 before closing down due to a decision by the Israeli parliament to replace the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA) with a new corporation called Kan.
